Sodium Bicarbonate

Market monitoring data indicates that sodium bicarbonate prices remained weak in July. The average market price was 1,272 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month and around 1,257 RMB/ton by month-end, representing a decline of 1.49%. Year-on-year, prices fell sharply by 41.28%.

On July 30th, the Sodium Bicarbonate Index stood at 83.16, unchanged from the previous day. This marks a historic low for the current cycle, reflecting a significant drop of 64.74% from the peak of 235.84 points recorded on November 10, 2021.

Commodity analysis suggests continued weak price movement for sodium bicarbonate, with satisfactory shipments from manufacturers. Prices in the Henan region remained soft, with exw prices at approximately 1,270 RMB/ton. In Shandong, exw prices ranged between 1,300 - 1,400 RMB/ton.

Raw Materials: According to monitoring data, soda ash (light) prices trended upwards overall in July. The average market price rose from 1,258 RMB/ton at the start of the month to around 1,302 RMB/ton by month-end, an increase of 3.5%. Compared to the same period last year, prices are up by 34.48%. 

Analyst Perspective: Sodium bicarbonate prices recently exhibited weakness. While its upstream raw material, soda ash, performed strongly overall in July, downstream sectors (including pharmaceuticals, textiles, and food industries) primarily purchased as needed, showing moderate demand enthusiasm. Given the current supply-demand dynamics, sodium bicarbonate prices are expected to consolidate in the near term. Future price movements will largely depend on downstream market demand.
