Alpha-lipoic acid

Lipoic acid (Alpha-lipoic acid) is a coenzyme present in mitochondria, with the molecular formula C8H14O2S2. Resembling a vitamin, it can eliminate free radicals that accelerate aging and cause diseases. After intestinal absorption, lipoic acid enters cells, possessing both fat-soluble and water-soluble properties.

Lipoic acid belongs to a class of compounds within the B vitamins and serves as a growth factor for yeast and some microorganisms. It acts as a coenzyme in multi-enzyme systems, facilitating acyl transfer in reactions such as the oxidative decarboxylation of pyruvate to acetate and α-ketoglutarate to succinate.

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a versatile antioxidant. Its dual solubility—both water- and fat-soluble—means it has a broad scope of action, reaching every cell in the body and protecting organs from free radical damage. As an antioxidant, alpha-lipoic acid offers several benefits:
